| no partners | | Left from lostgoldmine trail parking lot , easy well worn trail got to a cedar post with a wave trail sign pointing straight ahead, turns out that this is the spot that if you turn north crossing the fenceline you will be on the trail that leads up to the peralta mine , I actually thought this was the wave cave, I met someone coming through the fence line that said the cave is this way, anyway it was a nice side trip to the rock face with a caged off mine shaft, you can climb the shelf ledge above the mine for great views, see the dust rising the length of peralta road as more hikers drive in, at this point I met someone who knew the area well and told me that wave cave was farther west down the goldmine trail, Pay attention to the next cedar post you pass,there is no sign on it but this is where you turn right through the fence line to get on the trail that climbs to wave cave, I passed this by a half a mile before I ran into someone that told me I had passed the trail, by this time 11:00 am the trail was getting crowded and the climb to the cave was all about passing and letting others pass on the narrow steep trail, well worth the effort when you get into the cool air of the cave. Plan on taking my wife but during the week when less crowded. Great hike with nice side trip. |
