All in all, this was an enjoyable hike. There are several advantages and disadvantages. It is literally right next to the desert museum. You could visit the museum and have your lunch to, because there is a nice picnic area where the trailhead starts. This hike offers nice views, which would especially be nice at sunset. It is not a difficult hike, and I think almost anybody would enjoy it. There are a couple of negatives. I know the listing shows that you can ride a mountain bike. This is true for about three-quarters of this hike. The remaining portion of this hike would be not fun. It would involve steps, sharp switchbacks coming down Brown Mountain towards Gilbert Ray Camp Ground. And there were alot of loose small rocks in the trail, that would make it difficult. I guess if you were a professional mountain biker it would be your cup of tea. But from me being a modest rider, it would likely put me in the hospital. Also one drawback that I noticed was the road noise leading to the desert museum. This is a high traffic area that produces quite a bit of road noise while on top of the peaks. The road noise is not too bad once you get on the flats and the second half of the hike. All in all I was glad to do this hike.

Hiked Pima Canyon today. This was a very enjoyable hike. I decided to hike to Pima Canyon dam and no farther. The round-trip was approximately 6.4 miles and reached an elevation gain of 1100 feet according to my GPS. At the lower end of this hike it is heavenly congested with hikers, but as you go farther up the canyon there are less people. At a Hohokem site there are small bowl-shaped depressions in a slab of rock. The location is right in the middle of the trail. This is about 1/10 of a mile before the reach Pima Canyon dam. This hike offers quite a few photo opportunities. On the way back I encountered an 8-inch Gila monster. Like any good hiker, I gave him the right away.

Did this hike on Friday morning in mid-October. My quest was to find some autumn foliage. I was not disappointed. There were many aspen trees and some oaks that were in the middle of their splendor. This was a very enjoyable hike not too terribly difficult. The elevation gain is over 1000 feet but it is not radically difficult. The trail is well defined. At the peak it is over 10,000 feet and by a forest service cabin there is a picnic table, which you can take five. This is a heavy forested area with spectacular views of the valley below. This is a nice hike and was very enjoyable.

I did this hike at the start of October with temperatures ranging from the high 80s. The previous days it had rained from a tropical depression. This made the trail difficult to follow in spots. In addition there were several areas on this trail that are not in my opinion well defined as in which way to go. For me this hike was every bit a three in difficulty. But the scenery was great. A couple changes in this area that are notable is the entrance fee to the state park is 6 dollars per day use. Also due to the Aspen fire of 2003 the romero pools have been filled in with sand and debris. But the hiking area did not have any fire damage that I could see. I saw this during my hike, back to the pools, and confirmed by a Park Ranger. If you hike this trail thinking that you will find pools or water you may be somewhat disappointed. Overall this was an enjoyable hike for me. The scenery at points along the trail is well worth making this hike.
