| no partners | | Started around 5 PM and found the trail to be rather empty considering it was the Fourth of July weekend. I passed perhaps 10 people on the way up, but had the entire Basin to myself when I reached the top. It really is a fabulous feeling to be all alone in such a peaceful place--I could hardly drag myself back down.
Although I was a few months early for the fall foliage for which the Inner Basin is famous, the combination of of snow-capped peaks, wild flowers, lush green grass, and snow-melt streams made it an absolutely gorgeous hike. There were even a few patches of snow just off the trail.
GPS reception was pretty spotty, but given the terrain and dense forest, it's understandable. I had no signal for almost a mile in the middle of the hike.
I'll certainly be returning in the fall to check out the foliage and give myself more time to explore. |
