Been five years since enjoying this gem. We unanimously opted against the 34 mi / 10.8k shuttle from Slate Creek this round.

JJ held a good 45 min clip to Brown's Saddle while we caught up on babble. With a 8:20am start I was soaked in sweat. Probably need a 5am start to avoid in Aug. Occasional breezes were fully appreciated.

The moonscape areas are gone where a large portion was torched by the Lone Fire on my first hike. Lush esque all the way to Brown's Saddle now. Granted it's heavy on locust and such, I cherish the oaks and little tunnels of green.

Up the chute was easy utilizing both bypasses. We passed 1 guy in the chute then 3 on top and that was it until a group starting when we finished. The top was breezy and refreshingly cool. Got the first bypass down. Needed a spot on the second. Slow as hell. Did it.

Downhill and not sweating like a sprinkler, the hike back was great.

Heading out JJ showed me a vertical ravine slot area for 4WD fun. He's a jeep guy. I'm a Tacoma guy. We semi despise the other. Yadda yadda yadda.

Drive both ways was shockingly deserted. Obviously due to blowtorch temps. It'll pick up in two weeks.
