This is an epic Superstitions backpack loop. Start at the Rogers Canyon Trail (which you appreciate after 17+ miles down a rough high clearance road). Your first destination will be the Salado cliff dwelling ruins which you cannot miss, on the north side of the trail after about 4 miles. We started this trail in the late afternoon and carried a ton of water for fear of nothing available the first night. Regardless of the incredibly dry conditions of late, there was still a decent amount of water on this trip.
Spent the first night at Angel Basin. This is a magical place that we had all to ourselves and the incredible full moon on the canyon walls.
The next morning we trekked through the Frog Tanks trail which definitely tests your patience and endurance as you climb for about 8 miles. The most surprising part of the trail was the incredible views down a side canyon at about 2 miles in.
Turned south at Reavis trail and camped in the meadows not too far away. Plenty of good flowing filterable water in the dependable Reavis Creek. Temps were colder than expected at night as we found pretty solid frozen ice in the morning.
Finish the loop on the Reavis trail descending past the saddle and checking out the Reavis Grave towards the bottom. Incredibly beautiful backpacking trip in the eastern Superstitions. We wish we had spent more time soaking it in and not just continuously hiking through though.
Good amount of water flowing... easy to filter. Had some fears little water would be available after a pretty dry winter so far, but Reavis Creek is very dependable.
