Spud Wiser by markthurman53  This is a Short connector trail ( 0.5 miles ) that connects the Mica Mountain Trail to the North Fire Loop Trail near Spud Rock, with an elevation Gain of 358 feet. From the Mica Mountain Trail it travels northwest pretty much straight up the slope to the North Fire Loop Trail. The trail is in good condition but it is steep. It is an interesting trail as it travels up along the rocky slopes of Mica Mountain. This trail offers good views overlooking Mica Basin.
This is the trail to take if you are at Manning Camp and want to go directly to Spud Rock. If you are not trying to get to Spud Rock directly and are doing some sort of loop trail, I recommend going up the Mica Mountain Trail or take the West Fire Loop and save the Spud Rock Trail for a return route. A nice loop trail is the Mica Mountain Trail to the North Slope Trail to Italian Spring and west to the North Fire Loop Trail and returning down the Spud Rock Trail.
