The Grand
by trekkin_gecko

One of several SRP canals in the Phoenix area, the grand canal runs from just east of center parkway to the Glendale charging ponds near 104th Avenue and Maryland. The paved grand canal bike path begins at 56th street south of Washington Street and follows the canal to a dead end at I-17 just after crossing Indian School road.

Much of the path is newly paved, eight feet wide. There are a couple of short sections that are not, one near 16th street, and the last bit near I-17. Most of the busier roads have crossing lights. At night, segments of the path are illuminated. That said, the grand runs through some sketchy neighborhoods, but is pleasant riding in daylight hours. Flat, fast, and smooth.
