linda and i have looked at a few options in the goldfields
originally got this idea from @hikerdw, and did a variation of it with @tibber and again with @johnlp
it's very scenic and starts from a different trailhead than our last foray into the goldfields
we met up at the horse trails trailhead near milepost 203
we took willow connector, frankie goes to hollywood and cottonwood wash to horse with no name
we were on this going the opposite direction on our last hike
it's one of the prettiest trails in the goldfields
saw our first snake along here, a very small diamondback curled up on the trail
continued until it looped back east and took a short break on a rock outcropping
saw a good sized gopher snake and a smaller patchnose snake
followed the trail east past the cracked rock, the rock tunnel and a beautiful stand of saguaros
back to cottonwood wash, linda showed me a rock alcove that sometimes has a waterfall
picked up the anniversary arch loop, dropped into rough n ready canyon and returned to the trailhead
saw no one all day
could see several other trails that looked interesting
it's been fun to revisit some of my earlier hikes and actually know what trails we were on
would like to know my way around better out there
temps were fine with a good breeze and some high clouds
fun, scenic hike
thanks linda :)

went from 40th and shea trailhead around 0800
wanted to find a hike for claudia that included voaz and irregular link
went too far south on trail #8 before returning to trail 100, then cut up to 1A
did the little loop with voaz, circ and irregular link
there was a huge group of people along here
returned mostly on trail 100
not sure this is a good choice - too long to get to the loop and the uphill on the circumference trail might be too much
maybe with a shorter approach, it's doable
dreamy draw or nature trail start might be better
enjoyed the hike, but not really worth driving up to that trailhead from my place
need to hit 2429 again one of these days, but from 32nd and lincoln

warm temps but a good breeze
i was a little surprised at how many people were out late morning on a weekday
under two hours, so a good enough workout

bruce and linda invited me to hike the watson and willow lake loops in prescott
we got going around 0715 with temps in the 40s
a short road walk to watson lake, then the loop trail counterclockwise
the route included parts of the peavine trail, lakeshore and northshore trail
nice to be around water
the east and north side trails wound through spectacular boulder terrain
we explored a few nooks & crannies, and checked out the dam
back on the road and across the dry willow lakebed
counterclockwise on this loop too
more of the boulders on the eastern part, with unique formations and striations
took a break near the boat dock and finished out the loop
a section of open flat terrain, then a more riparian environment under a canopy of cottonwoods
one more short bouldering section that topped out with a nice view
90% of this hike was new to me
was here most recently in 2013 to climb time zone wall with johnr1
missed the approach along the west side of watson lake
thanks for the invite!
nice to get out of phoenix for great weather, new terrain and good company :)

met C and L at the triangle at 0630
we got going on the new piece of alta trail, soon joining with the original
took the spur to maricopa peak
hit both the north and south peaks, found the reference marks but not the benchmark
think that is long gone
on the return we went east along the ridgeline to star peak
after admiring landmarks on the west side, returned on alta
nice enough temps, a little shade
good to get out with todd and linda for a local hike
think we saw a total of four people
