Good topic still going strong. How do you folks prefer to carry when you're hiking/backpacking? Anything on the hip whether IWB or OWB tends to interfere with hip belts. Pack straps preclude the use of a shoulder holster. Ankle carry? Fuhgeddaboutit... I'm thinking fanny pack or dropleg holster. Dro...

I have to say that in my opinion the alleged shooter is guilty. Having recently completed a concealed carry firearm training course, we were endlessly reminded that there are no "warning shots." If you draw your weapon, it is to fire on your assailant. If you do not intend to immediately ...

Having been forced by the US Army to schlep a shelter half around throughout infantry basic training and AIT, I can assure you that the shelter half sucks.

I'll take a poncho hooch over the shelter half any day. Where's my woobie?

It was also my understanding according to the FAQs that the barometric altimeter was not universal across the product line, but rather that the FAQs were speaking in general terms regarding the GPSr's that did in fact have barometric altimeters. Also, the product comparision page for the eTrex serie...

Fascinating. I always assumed a GPSr would simply use triangulation to determine altitude as this seems more simple, considering the unit is already receiving satellite signals. It just seems to add another layer of complication to have the unit use a barometer. Does this hold true across the entire...

In response to mikeinFHAZ's reply: Vario Futura 50+10 (60 L.) 3000-3600, 5,5oz BUT loaded with features $149 I saw one of these on the net for around $90. It definitely caught my eye with that airconditioned suspension. I also saw a Jansport Peregrine for $49.95, 3200 cu.in. 4 lb. 6 oz. I didn't se...

I was thinking about buying a Kelty Moraine. Anyone have any pros/cons, yeas/nays, mutts/jeffs to share about that model? Anyone got any favorite internal frames around 3000 - 3500 c.i. that they'd care to recommend? Trying to stay under $150 here. No need to break my already fragile bank account. R...

*barf!* That site says we can lower taxes by expanding our country abroad because we can suddenly stop paying for embassies? That's a lame argument. What about all the other stuff in that newly-annexed state that we'd have to start paying for? Like more damn government offices there? Roads? Etc etc?

Any butane lighter is under pressure and uses this pressure in order to force the butane out of the lighter, whether it's blowtorch-style or regular. The issue is, the butane has to vaporize before it can burn. Butane expands and vaporizes more readily at higher temperatures, so when it's cold the b...

Most geocaches are full of junk though. A lot of them start out with neat stuff...

Wouldn't the border area be a great training ground for the national guard seeing as most of our military action is in the desert anyway? In Arizona? The same state that gave up its armored cavalry detachment because the tracked vehicles were too harsh on the desert environment? Not bloody likely. :(
