Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

The iPads have pretty advanced navigation apps now and a large viewable area. I still haven't messed with it out in the field to see how accurate it is compared to a normal unit, etc... I have an iPad and would not take it out as a substitute for a Garmin hand-held unit. I think it is just too big ...

I hope the RINOs get updated to this new platform.

Re: Communication on the trail

My wife and I have Garmin Rinos to keep in touch while on the trail. These are GPS receivers with a GMRS radio built in. I like the fact that I only have to have one electronic gadget with me while hiking. These also let you plot the location of the other members of your party (with Rinos) on your G...

It is snowing here just west of Prescott @ ~5700'. It is 38° so nothing is sticking.

Re: GPS battery life

Although I have not done a thorough scientific analysis, I would recommend the Garmin Rinos. I have a pair of 530HCx's. They have a very large 8.4V, 2400mAh Li Ion rechargeable battery. I have used them now for about six months. In practical use, running the GPS with the compass on and occasionally ...

Get A Mac!
Believe me, I am a recent convert and I have never been sorry that I made the switch.

You will be free from the Trojan/Virus Hassles. You can run Windows in a virtual machine if you have software you need to run that has no equivalent on the Mac.

I second the part about Lilo's. Don't miss that. :bigth:
I've never stayed in the area. Being form Prescott, it is not that far of a drive.

Re: Canon Digital Rebel T1i - EOS 500D

This is very tempting... My Rebel Xt is looking a bit long in the tooth by comparison.
I just wish they would make an affordable DSLR with a Full Frame Sensor and leave off some of the more "Gimmicky" features.
Video is cool but I'd rather have the Full Frame Sensor.

A SPOT to the Rescue. From the Prescott Daily Courier: Yavapai County deputies were able to find a lost Prescott couple this past weekend, thanks to a commercial satellite-tracking device the couple had that allowed deputies to use GPS coordinates to find them. In a Monday press release, Dwight D'Ev...

Re: Forest mystery?

This is a top secret military base called area 50. It was abandoned back in the 1940s because the markings were just too confusing for the aliens to figure out where to land. One craft circled for so long trying to figure it out that it ran out of fuel and crashed in New Mexico. :sl:

Thank God there is someone else as crazy as we are!!! :)

Well, you should bring them up to Prescott one of these days. We could meet and have a HAZ-Weimaraner fest! Ours love nothing more than going for a hike.
We actually have three now. One is a temporary foster for Weimaraner Rescue.

Re: Verde River access off FR131

I found an even better spot to access the river today. Attached is another map showing roughly the same area as the previous one. I have updated it with the correct road numbers and the new access location. Just park at the end of Road 9515 and take a leisurely walk down to the river. VR Access 2.pdf
