WTG Joel, well deserved
2010
On route to Browns we passed these two dudes. I hadn't even lifted my head as I was in full determined mode. Then about ten feet beyond the one guys asks, are you guys from HikeAriz... I reply, "never heard of it", then he replies "I'm Joel". That broke my mindset and sure enough I had just passed Joel Hazelton! Wow, I'm an idiot...lol
The other dude is world famous now, I'm definitely hanging out with the wrong crowd

Thanks guys! I'm super, super, super stoked. Kind of a dream come true. Can't disclose too much, but look out for future AZH publications, too

My wife and I just purchased a print from Joel, ALSO before he became famous! We got married a year ago and are slowly filling the house up and decorating it. I showed her one of his photos from HAZ as one I wanted to display in a bedroom, and she loved it as much as I did.

Very cool, Joel - congrats!
There is also a nice little article about Indian Gardens Ranger Elyssa in this issue - super sweet girl. Remember her, Gecko - she gave the Condor talk and issued Jess and I our Jr Ranger badges when the three of us did our backpacking trip?

Yes, I met him once at the HAZfest. I knew him only as "Joel," and had no idea who he was, not a clue, until I got home. He must have wondered why I seemed so puzzled. Last names do make things easier for us over-the-hill folks.

Hmmm...talked to him a lot on FB and here about 4 years ago. I've only been to one HAZfest, so that's the one where I met him.
(I know the other Joel N. much better, have done several backpacking trips with him.)

Congratulations Joel, that's huge!
