Reavis Ranch Nov. 11-13 2016
Some people may have a holiday on Nov. 11 (Veterans Day).
We will all know who won the election, and regardless who it is, we will all want to get away for a few days to get the future off our minds.
Reavis is popular in autumn. There should be no expectation of wilderness solitude. But there is plenty of room. It's probably hunting season. The apples will be all gone.
Superstition Wilderness regulations limit group size to 15. If more wish to go, you'll have to plan a separate trip.
Access is via 109 North (9.5 miles and 1900 feet up)
or the steeper climb via 109 South (7.5 miles and 1100 feet up).
Average high temperatures in the low to mid 60s, average lows in the mid 30s. It snowed last time I was there in early November.
There is water available for filtering.
Numerous options for day hikes are available for Saturday and Sunday.
*Clothing optional

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Apples are usually still available if your 6' and 36 inches... Just sayin...

I was thinking the same, and possibly a visit over to Two Bar Ridge via Reavis Gap.The_Dude wrote:Circlestone and Mound mountain perhaps? Been on the list since my last trip out there.

Re: Reavis Ranch Nov. 11-13 2016
If everything works out, I would probably hike in from 109 south Friday afternoon, trip to Mound & Circlestone Saturday, and hike out Sunday morning. I will have to confirm a little closer to November, but this sure sounds like a good trip.

Re: Reavis Ranch Nov. 11-13 2016
For those hiking in from the south after passing the grave site of old man Reavis you will eventually pass a rock formation on your left. You can reach out and touch it as you go by. At the upper end of it turn left and take the two or three steps up to the top where you will find a small village site. Great place to stop, sit down, take a break, have lunch and view the valley below. Just an FYI for the curious...

Circlestone is a must-see if you haven't already but Mound is a bit overrated. If you want better views and a more rewarding adventure, I'd recommend White Mountain.The_Dude wrote:Circlestone and Mound mountain perhaps?

It should be a fun weekend out there. I'm sure our groups will cross paths at some point!

Both myself and @reynchr are interested. We've come in from 109 S, not sure if we'll want to subject ourselves to that drive again.
As for day hikes on Saturday, man, that White Mountain sounds pretty darn cool.

Have fun! I'll just miss this by a day or so. I get in Friday night and probably won't start hiking until Sunday morning (although I don't know where yet).

you need shelter. and sleeping gear that will <realistically> take you down to 30 degrees. AND, packing in a mix of Craft Beer, around 6-8 cans will make you some good friends.Widowmaker wrote:This will be my first time out there so I am excited just not sure what all I need to bring for Rowdy and me.
