Interactive Map showing Superstition Trails

Post by rickcmarsh »

In the past I have been able to get to a page that showed all of the superstition trails on a map and you could mouse over different trails and it would then take you to that description. I have not been able to find that page again. Is this still part of Hike Arizona?

I do not know the answer Rick but somewhere out there we supposedly have a lost gold mine also.

@rickcmarsh
HAZ features "mapped areas" that show all the trails in a certain region.

There's one for Superstition Trails (just the official, named and numbered trails):
https://hikearizona.com/map.php?X=17

and also one that has many more routes and off-trail or unofficial links within the wilderness:
https://hikearizona.com/map.php?X=469

I hope that's what you were looking for.

There are also some old-skool Flash maps lingering on site which you might remember from back in the 1990s. ;)

One for the Superstitions is still here:

Others can be found in a forum post about the old flash maps:

Is there an easy way to find these so-called "mapped areas" maps? I know how to load all the maps in view on a blank map, but I don't recall seeing a link for the entire Supes map, or for any other major hiking area.

@flagscott
There are probably a few different ways to get there. I usually use the map.

On desktop, open the map and click on the "Mapped Areas" tab on the left side. (On mobile, you have to select "Mapped Areas" from the "Select" menu in the top left.) Zoom to the general area you are interested in and click the "Find" button. A list of mapped areas appears on the left and the map shows an icon for each mapped area in view. Click the icon or the list to display the hikes in the chosen mapped area.

Another way is to select a trail within an area you are interested in. For example, Siphon Draw #53. From the hike description page for that hike, all the mapped areas that hike is part of appears on the left side of the page below the list of photosets (on mobile the mapped areas have a dedicated icon you click on to view them). In the case of Siphon Draw #53 there are four mapped areas it is a part of. You can choose to view a mapped areas as a list, as official routes drawn on the map, or as a checklist showing your own completion stats.

Orange Search at the top of any page will find Mapped Areas too

quickest way to use the orange search: type three letters from each word
mapped-area-search.png
last option on above takes you to a list, click the red pin marker ( in this screenshot ) to map the results

I would get used to using the mapped areas over the flash maps.

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the iPhone :o

HAZ is starting to seem like one of those video games where there are "easter eggs" or hidden codes to unlock bonus features (BTW, that's a compliment, not a criticism--I just haven't educated myself yet on all of the many useful functions here).

I must be missing the connection between Steve Jobs & Flash... I'm curious in what context they relate to each other.
:?
(For those who might wonder about the age of Flash, it was released in 1996 by Macromedia, which has since been acquired by Adobe.)

My apologies. I thought this was fairly mainstream knowledge.

Not being a huge Apple fan I guess I'm not mainstream enough, huh? :oops:

In my view, Flash went downhill after Adobe acquired Macromedia. but that's just :M2C:

So did Freehand, but then I always preferred Illustrator anyway. Dreamweaver improved immensely under Adobe though.

Welcome to the next level. You nailed it. And it changes all the time. Things you knew, move and you have to find them again. But once you are given the "secret handshake" it all becomes intuitive. I've been here a long time and I still keep finding new things and new levels. But it really does make a lot of sense.

Actually you are sort of getting the secret handshake. I see you have a special name. I have no idea what it means. You will get different names as you progress through HAZ. I'm surprised Tough_Boots is "Forest Gangster" and not "Forest Gangsterpelli". I fear he might be in a temporary purgatory that he needs to earn his way out of.
Anybody can make a hike harder. The real skill comes in making the hike easier.
