Bones Near the Barnhardt Trailhead

Post by pixelfrog »

Anyone else hear about this or have any other information? I did this hike last April and the remains were estimated to be a year old, so I may have passed the departed. I do seem to remember some vultures circling the area.

Too bad.
A few years ago my Federal Agent girlfriend had to hop a helicopter to the North Rim to check out a credible sighting ... wasn't him, obviously, but the guy looked alot like him and had the same distinctive straight-backed posture.

"and a holstered gun"

at least the registered owner to said gun can be found out within minutes. ??

Many guns are not registered, have never been registered, or are sold privately without changing the original registration, none of which possiblities are illegal in Arizona.

It seems like a lead at least. So strange that no connection to missing persons has surfaced.

@Vaporman
great to hear from you

seems unlikely
There were men’s clothing still on the skeletal remains, a backpack nearby and a holstered gun, but no identification.
no need for anyone to fill this thread with speculation either
The remains will be sent to the University of South Texas for analysis, including sex, age and possibly cause of death. DNA from the bones will also be put into a nationwide database to see if there are any matches.

@joebartels True... Guess we’ll have to wait and see what the lab says. Glad to hear you are doing better! 👍

Has anyone heard anything about this? I think of it everytime I drive by, which is quite often.

Article in the Payson Roundup on 1/8 states the remains have been identified as Daniel M. Andrews of the valley according to Sgt. Paul Hornung of the Gila County Sheriff's Office.

OK.. this now confirms a name.
(maybe my 1/4 & 1/7 attempted contacts to the Payson Roundup and to Det. Sgt. Paul Hornung prompted this 1/8/19 article)
