Hydration - Water isn't the best

Post by chumley »

Ok, so this comes from @fakenewsCNN so obviously take it with a grain of salt.

Speaking of salt ... interesting article here on a study from St. Andrews University.

Drink milk. Also, a good beer is almost as good as water!
Most Hydrating Drinks
1. Skim milk
2. Oral rehydration solutions (like Pedialyte or Liquid I.V.)
3. Full fat milk
4. Orange juice
5. Cola
6. Diet Cola
7. Cold tea
8. Tea
9. Sports drink
10. Still water
11. Sparkling water
12. Lager
13. Coffee

This quote from the article contradicts the list. I don't think OJ & Cola should be above water.

"But here's where it gets tricky: Beverages with more concentrated sugars, such as fruit juices or colas, are not necessarily as hydrating as their lower-sugar cousins. They may spend a little more time in the stomach and empty more slowly compared to plain water, but once these beverages enter the small intestine their high concentration of sugars gets diluted during a physiological process called osmosis. This process in effect "pulls" water from the body into the small intestine to dilute the sugars these beverages contain. And technically, anything inside the intestine is outside your body. Juice and soda are not only less hydrating, but offer extra sugars and calories that won't fill us up as much as solid foods, explained Majumdar. If the choice is between soda and water for hydration, go with water every time. After all, our kidneys and liver depend on water to get rid of toxins in our bodies, and water also plays a key role in maintaining skin's elasticity and suppleness. It's the cheapest moisturizer you'll find."

Also I'm not a scientist but ...

I learn something new everyday.

(researching definition of the word technically as we speak)

Junk science is creating distrust in experts and real scientific data. That's why we have a nation of self-righteous people who are proud to be ignorant and see ignoring facts as a source of power. That's why we have a growing # of people who think the earth is flat, the moon landing wasn't real, and vaccines cause autism.

Americans get lied to constantly, where we have to become knowledgeable in everything to find the truth.

It is not junk science. It is not even bad education. Instead it is an indoctrination. Science has become a religion -- for those who do not know science.

More contradiction...
"The more you drink, the FASTER the drink empties from your stomach and gets absorbed into the bloodstream, where it can dilute the body's fluids and hydrate you."
Compare that to this...
"For example, milk was found to be even more hydrating than plain water because it contains the sugar lactose, some protein and some fat, all of which help to SLOW the emptying of fluid from the stomach and keep hydration happening over a longer period of time."

As for me I'll continue adding LYTEshow electrolyte to my filtered water.

Who cares where lager falls on the list, I want to know where a good ale lies. I'm also curious where spring water is ranked. Also, what about stock tank water, I'm usually pretty darn thirsty when I need to drink it?

I don't understand how Tea can Rank above Water. Tea is a Diuretic. It's going to make you Shed fluids... It doesn't have any Sugar, Protein or Fat, so how can they give that argument?

@outdoor_lover Caffeine! 5 or 6 on the list are typically high in caffeine. Chumley did say at the beginning this came from CNN.

The "New Math" started us down this path. Math was about exacting, now it's about estimating. That's what the "New Science" has become. Arrive at your conclusion first, then backward-extrapolate to the desired, initial observation.
