Re: AZT in a Day!
There will be a completion form on the aztrail.org website, it's not "live" yet. The form will have section completing reporting, a way to upload photos, and a section for stories about your hike. If you're signed up, you should receive something via email soon, and it will also be posted on Facebook.4Be wrote:I've signed up for section 20, Gordon Hirabayashi to Cathedral Rock, since there was only one other person doing this section. But it is unclear to me if I am suppose to do something, like send an email to somebody, when I'm done. Does anybody have any insight into this?
Thanks for signing up!! Enjoy your hike!

You can report your section completion here (form will be available on Oct 6th): https://aztrail.org/events/50th-anniver ... finishers/
I echo @tibber. Selfies of you at trailheads, and with some scenery are all good, and you can upload them on the form as well after you are done.
You have a long day ahead of you. You might not make these after parties, but I also want to make sure you know about them since you just signed up:
Summerhaven
Come to a BBQ behind the fire station in Summerhaven (near the Oracle Ridge TH) for AZT IN A DAY folks completing sections near there. Enjoy food, a small raffle, and relax on the top of Mt. Lemmon after a long day's hike, bike or ride. BBQ lasts from 1pm-3pm on October 6th. Best for folks in sections 19A, 19B, 20, 21 and 22 (southbound). Contact Kim for more info: kimba_03753@yahoo.com, and to RSVP. Mt Lemmon Fire District: 13170 N Control Rd, Mt Lemmon, AZ 85619
Oracle
Oracle Partners in Tourism (OPT), the OWN - Oracle Womens Network, and several others have come together to host two 2-hour hikes on October 6th. Afterwards hikers are encouraged to enjoy breakfast (with a half-price coupon) and music at Arizona Zipline Adventures. Contact Liz Harris-Tuck for more information: careerhorizons@msn.com.
Hope that helps!

Update! SECTIONS NORTH OF THE GRAND CANYON
Highway 89 is closed just south of Tuba city due to a large sinkhole. Those signed up to hike/bike/ride north of the grand canyon will need to allot and extra 2.5 hours driving to get to their section if coming from the south. https://myradioplace.com/2018/10/04/hig ... ad-damage/

Re: AZT in a Day!
2019 is scheduled for October 12th. Put it on your calendar. We didn't quite get it all in 2018 so let's see if we can help out in 2019.
On October 6th, 2018 at least 796 people were out on the Arizona National Scenic Trail. There were 57 mountain bikers, 34 equestrians, and 705 runners and hikers. At least 106 family and friends shuttled us, brought us snacks, and cheered us on. Five gateway communities welcomed AZT IN A DAYers in Sonoita, Summerhaven, Oracle, Superior and Pine for after-parties.
Of those who submitted post-event finisher forms, we've recorded a collective 5,784 miles -- that’s enough to cover the AZT's 800-mile length 7 times. Some had the “perfect” Arizona day, while others experienced rain, sleet, snow and thunderstorms. Several hikers were out for multiple nights to reach their remote sections.
As far as we are aware, the youngest person on the trail was 3 months old, and the oldest was 86.
The most miles covered was 65.2 miles, completed by two mountain bikers. The most miles completed on foot is around 44 miles, and this distinction is shared by four runners who completed a rim-to-rim-to-rim through Grand Canyon.
Based on the post-event finishers forms, Facebook posts and Instagram shots we've received, we can say with certainty that 96% of the trail was completed. Due to road closures, severe weather, and some personal emergencies, we didn’t quite meet our goal of covering the entire AZT in a day.

Re: AZT in a Day!
Hey Everyone!
Registration is open for AZT in a Day 2019, and the date is set for Saturday, October 12th. You can register here: https://aztrail.org/events/aztinaday-2019/
The goal is the same! On Saturday, October 12, 2019, hundreds of people will gather throughout the state of Arizona for AZT in a Day. Hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians will stage themselves along the Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT) with the goal to collectively complete its entire length— over 800 miles—in 24 hours. This will be the first time a National Scenic Trail has been completed in this fashion, and the second attempt at a full trail completion on the Arizona Trail.
This year you’ll notice we’ve revamped our AZT in a Day webpage. We hope you like the design. Here are a few other changes you’ll see:
1) Interactive Section Map – We’ve created a new visual resource to help you find and learn more about your chosen section and its endpoints. Click on a section or a section endpoint, to learn a little more: http://bit.ly/AZTinaDayMap
2) Fundraising – This year we’re offering participants the option to fundraise as part of participating in AZT in a Day. This is an opportunity to give back to the trail and lend your support to the Arizona Trail Association and the programs that uphold our mission. We hope you'll join us! Here’s how it works:
a. Upon signing up for your section, you’ll receive a fundraising page.
b. This page is for you to customize and share with family and friends. You can also use it to track your fitness activity and to create teams with other friends who are participating.
c. Please note that you can change your fundraising goal at any time, and there is no obligation to fundraise. However, please do not delete your fundraising page if you chose not to use it. Deleting the page will also delete your registration for AZT in a Day.
3) Section Changes – This year we’ve made some adjustments. Please take note if you’re trying to sign up for the same section as last year:
o Section 38 has been divided into two sections (38A and 38B).
o Due to access issues, Section 4A is now called Section 4, and former Section 4B and Section 5 have been combined and are now called Section 5.
o UR1 is shorter and goes from Canyon Vista Campground to Route 66.
o Section 66* is now Section 66A and Section 66 is now Section 66B.
Thanks for participating last year. Hopefully we'll see you out there again!

Re: AZT in a Day!
Seeking flexible hikers, runners and bikers!
The ATA is looking for a handful of outdoor enthusiasts that can help fill last minute AZT in a Day gaps! These folks will be on standby on Saturday, October 12th, watching our AZT in a Day Facebook event OR this forum, and their email--ready to spring into action if needed.
What do you need to do?
Email karrie@aztrail.org if you want to be a "Standby" hiker, runner or mountain biker. Let Karrie know what sections you can "standby" for. Then join the facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/450836582316518/), or watch this forum on HikeArizona so you can stay informed, and watch for last minute openings on the 12th.
It's helpful if you are not currently registered for a section. Must have or be able to borrow a 4WD, high clearance vehicle, just in case the roads get rough. Thank you!

@toddak are you doing any of the AZT in a Day?
We're doing our part on 35 from the Boundary to Powerlines and then the next day finishing off 35 from Boundary to Moqui Station. I know Karl and Kathy are doing a section too (Passage 28). Haven't heard if any HAZers are participating.

That road is a little bumpy, but pretty nicely maintained. It's a real road, just not paved, and there will be a large moon to light the way, should you be driving there this weekend. There's a little parking area on the south side of the road where the trail crosses.
