If I recall, this topic was started as a reply to another topic featuring a question of similar relevance in the grand scheme of things. I found it to be quite witty at the time. The forum can't consist entirely of weighty topics of ethics and include only replies that receive the seal of approval!

My favorite color doesn't exist. I can tell because I'm repeatedly unable to achieve it when I'm working on a print.

That makes sense. There does appear to be an unusually high participation of social bacteria in an otherwise pointless thread. Predictably so, in fact.

I am still trying to figure this one out too. I have to go through a moderator to post, yet somehow ths thread exists on HAZ?Really? What's value of this question? Someone deeply needs some sort of distraction. Most likely, looking for attention.

Is it negative? As you know, I was not the first to apply it to a specific entity here. However, it is rather fitting. Social bacteria as a term, doesn't seem negative if one understand the common meaning. Basically, a group bacteria that move together in coordinated swarms to kill their prey. Applying to human behavior might be perceived as a negative attack, especially if it strikes a nerve for it's apt usage, even when not directed at any specific individual. Observations can be neutral, after all, an expression of what is happening in the moment and not an attack as such. I expected a profound observer such as yourself would recognize that.

@friendofThundergod
fair point
As always I'm open to opinions and ideas, let's hear it.
All forum topics should be allowed to go off topic, loaded with nonsense, spam and treat others with disrespect?
Sorta, not really, only if I've been called out?
Anybody should be allowed to post anything and then be subjected to the rules?
Anybody should be allowed to post anything and we'll just pretend that the rules don't apply to them?
There should be no rules in a public forum period?
fair point

@joebartels
Eh all fair points I suppose, maybe just solve all those problems and ax the forum portion on the web page entirely
I mean Nothing overly substantive is ever really gained from the the forum. Most common question usually seems to be someone new to hiking or backpacking asking about where to go and etc, or someone from out of state asking the same. If forum was eliminated, might drive more traffic to triplogs and descriptions as one would have to research their inquiries etc. Maybe have an announcement page/calendar to announce things like the GC symposium I just posted, for example. Online forums are so early 2000s anyways

but what would become of certain members who haven't contributed anything meaningful to the website in years and yet still Post in the forum? Where would they go?

Re: What's Your Favorite Color
@chumley So, if they already have an outlet, one has to ask why they continue to come to a website to post in a forum, frequently to troll, where they have no apparent interest in the activity around which that website is centered? It's almost as if is they know that they are a small fish afraid to leave their small pond.
