Bagging all 4 "Four Peaks"

Post by AK »

Just curious if anyone here or anyone you know has ever bagged all 4 of the Four Peaks. Its something I'm thinking of attempting possibly next spring.

The Zumas? Funny Pete! Bring your bag and you can sleep on the front doorstep! Seriously though, you can crash at my place if you want if you don't mind my roommate passed out on the couch snoring. I live right by the Beeline.

As far as a head count I've got: Myself

Did I miss anyone? I think that this is a big enough group.

Oh and I had a dream about this hike lastnight. But I think I'll wait to tell you guys what it was about after the hike. :o

Meeting at 5:30 and departing at 6 sounds like a good plan to me. I'll bring a topo map. I suggest others do the same. (Matt, this time I won't leave my map in the jeep.)

A topo map?
It should be pretty obvious, shouldnt it?
That big mountain over yonder with the four peaks on it.

Here's the gps track - see how far we deviated from the ridgeline. Not for lack of a topo, just looking for the easiest line.

Thanks for the topo track! I see that the track from peaks 3-2 and 2-1 were off of the ridgeline. Difficult lines?

Great picture Rodney! AZrocks, thanks for the track. I figured a TOPO would help us avoid dead ends, at least the obvious huge ones. I've been between Brown's Peak and the second peak. It was fun finding a path that didn't require wings. :)

Is it time yet?!

So its set. Meet at the parking area off the Beeline on Sat. the 20th at 5:30am and depart at 6am for the trailhead. I will need to carpool to the top with someone because my Honda doesn't quite have the clearance needed to make it.

So we don't have to take too many vehicles up there, if anyone wants to meet in a TBD parking lot on Power or Ellsworth (both straight shots via Bush hwy to the Beeline) PM me.

I have a GPS with topo map software for uploading trails. I need to find a good idea of the trail so that i can map it. Anyone have an idea if the red trail, on the map of the Four Peaks Mother Load trail, is the actual trail that we are looking to approximate? Does this include the off road part of the trip?

Brad,
If you're using NG TOPO! I've got a .tpg file that has the off-road portion of the trip (Beeline Hwy to the Four Peaks parking lot) and the hike from the parking lot to the saddle below Brown's Peak. Note that this a saved track log so you'll have more waypoints than you'll actually need but you will see every twist, turn and the elevations at each point.

Alternately, I could export the map image with the track and post it on the web.

I think this is something I'd like to attempt with you all. The only thing is that it depends on if I get the day off or not. It's too late to request it off, so I'd just have to get lucky. I won't know until Monday. I live in North Pheonix and would rather car pool even if that means to drive to Power or Elsworth. If anybody lives closer that I can car pool with that would be great. Once again no deffinates here, just depends on work.

Hey Brad, the red line on the map is the hiking trail itself. But we are going up thru the mine which is between the 3rd and 4th peaks instead of up the third peak like the map shows. I'm sure Joe made the map that way so that everyone and their mother won't go trampling thru the mine property without permission. If you want to see the route we will be taking, check out this link. http://keepthis.info/FourPeaks/images/FourPeaks.jpg

For water planning purposes, any idea on the milage, elevation gain, and time it's going to take us? From glancing at the topo it looks like about 5 miles and 3,000 feet of elevation gain round trip. Is that about right? I'm also guessing we can do it in about 6 hours, but I might be underestimating the terrain.

Also, any plans to "summit" the other Four Peaks later that evening for post hike festivities?
