Bagging all 4 "Four Peaks"

Post by AK »

Just curious if anyone here or anyone you know has ever bagged all 4 of the Four Peaks. Its something I'm thinking of attempting possibly next spring.

I have a CRV and can take two with me.
Power & McDowell is a Starbucks to park (NW corner), might have to get coffee at
diamond shamrock on the opposite corner (SW), unless Starbucks opens at 5am?? I'll check.
Daryl are you in?

Who else has a vehicle that's going to the top?

Hey Kenny,

i have no idea where Power and Beeline meet, but i will be taking the Beeline/McDowell from the 101. If i am going to be passing you all and you need me to pick some people up i definetly can do. I have a 4x4 Jeep Cherokee and can take three additioinal people to the top.

More importantly, i am all for a post Four Peaks beer after the hike.

AZhiker96 and myself are meeting on Ellsworth. I'd rather not make the location of our unattended cars public so PM me if you want to meet up with us.
I can haul 3 people plus gear in my truck.

4 Peaks after 4 Peaks sounds like a plan to me.

Conquering 2 places called Four Peaks sounds like great idea!

Hey Daryl its looks like the hike will be about 7.8 miles with an accumulated gain of 4060 feet of elevation. As far as time to complete, your guess is as good as mine.

Well I can only figure this

Humphries Summit trail is nine miles total.
About 2 miles of off trail/scrambling type
3350 elevation gain.
takes about 6 hours
Four Peaks
1 mile less, 1000 more gain
probably more off trail
Based on that, factoring in more stops for a group thing-
It should be about 8hours in my guesstimation

Any thoughts?

Hey AK, is it cool if I ride with you up to the meeting area. If I have a working jeep for the trip I would be happy to take us (and two more) all the way to the top.

Hey Matt thats cool. I think Pete is planning on staying at either mine or your house the night before so that he doesn't have to be up by 3am to drive from where he is. Then we can all ride together to the meeting area.
Pete I think we are looking more at 10 hours to do this. But who knows.

Well, I've been laying low with the end of the semester duties - and getting pounded at work - so I've missed most of this discussion thus far.

However - I think it may be possible that I could make this. Not 100% certain, but the schedule looks favorable and I have the next 2 weeks off from work to recover.

Any objections if I tag along?

I am, after all, one who enjoys stirring the pot.

Also - the group looks to already be exceeding the original upper limit. If there are too many folks then that's cool. The only other wrench would be that I drive an Escort - so there's no way I'd make it to the trail-head.

Boy - I'm just full of problems.

Compairing this to Humpherys Peak is a really bad compairison. I personally think that Browns Peak itself is alot more rigerouse. I know that this hike as a whole is going to be much more strenouse.
Ok, I'm at 7th street and loop 101. I noticed there was a few meeting places, which would be the closest to where I am at? and what time should I meet you?

Your welcome to tag along Olesma. It looks as though that this group has grown beyond my expectations. So far I have a head count of 11 from this thread. So now I think that this is the time to limit this group to what it presently is.

Steven, if you can't catch a ride with someone from that side of town then meeting at the parking area just off the Beeline on FR143 is your best bet.

It might be a good idea to coordinate gmrs radios amongst the group. I know some of you will be going much faster than others and with the multitude of possible routes it might be beneficial if we could keep in contact. I have several frs radios and would be happy to bring them, they have shorter range but they could be useful for the smaller groups that inevitably form. I know daryl has one gmrs is there anyone else?

My $.02, if this hike is like what I'm thinking it's like, it's probably best we try to stick together. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving anyone off by themselves on this one.

To make the head count a little higher... I have a friend that may be coming also (sorry, but I wouldn't have been forgiven if I didn't invite him on this one...).

Daryl, I completely agree with you, but I have never been on a group hike where everyone actually stuck together. Theres always a few people who just travel faster than the rest of the group. Hopefully it turns out that the faster movers are the ones with radios...

I have a couple FRS radios that I will bring.
I dont feel bad about the group breaking up. Maybe because I dont feel bad about being left behind. I know that it does bother some people.
I think the radios would be great to keep us connected. From the peaks we should pretty much be able to see the whole group, me thinks.

I guess the dynamics will develop. Things never seem to go as planned.
It just happens.

Well, it looks like ya'all are set for a great hike! Too bad you already limited it and the bus is full. . . I had three girl friends who were looking for a challenging hike. But that's okay you probably just be annoyed with a group of young college girls anyway!

Enjoy and bring back lots of pics. : queen :
