Cave Creek/Skunk Tank Loop question

Post by domromer »

does this trail loop have any orvernight camping areas for backpacking, also is th creek a reliable source of water if filtered, or is it dry this time of the year? We are trying to do a desert camp but avoid carrying lots of water

there are several options for camping if you take the CC trail past the left branching Skunk Tank trail (about 2.5 miles?)
you will see flat areas all along the creek just after the trail crosses it at about mile 3.
water will be in pools, but finding clear water might take some searching
squirrel!

I just did this loop today and there was lot's of running water in the creek.
Also don't let the fact that the fire burned alot kepp you from going. Most all the vegetation along the creek was left un burned. It was quiet a beautiful hike. I did the entire hike with my 100oz water pack filled and still had some left when I got back to my vehicle. Good luck! Jeff
