Barnhardt/Y-Bar Loop, Sunday April 13

Post by DarthStiller »

This one should be a challenge since I'm doing it (as usual) as a dayhike. From the Barnhardt TH, take the Barnhardt Trail up to Mazatzal Divide, south to Y-Bar and back to the TH. Depending on what book you read, its either 14 or 17 miles. I hope its more like 14. I counted the miles on TopoUSA and it was also closer to 14 or so. The elevation gain is about 2600' (based on what I've read). It will obviously be an all day affair, so another pre-dawn 5:30am start should be in order.

Looks like we might have to officially declare this hike SOL. I'll check to see what the official word on 87 is the next few days, but it doesnt look like they'll open it before Apr. 13.

They've still got 3 weeks to work on it so don't count it out yet.

no way man. they cant leave all the people in Payson stranded away from their jobs in the Valley! I know at least 3 guys up there that work here in E. valley. and then there's Dshur. Im sure there must be an emergency hiway fund provided by the state?
I have a suspicion the road will be opened by Tues the 1st.

The latest that I have heard on that is it may be opened by this afternoon. The 24th. I am staying with my mom in Black Canyon city till it is opened...
