2012 Hazolutions

Post by Tortoise_Hiker »

Hey Hazers,
It's that time again.
Let's hear some of your Hazolutions for 2012.
I am going to try and get out and hike with some more Haz hikers that I haven't hiked with and some more with the old ones too! I also want to do lots of hikes I haven't done yet. Oh yeah, and finish the AZT! 9 passages to go. :y:
Now, how about you? :D

Yeah, cradleboards and flat heads. I used to work in a nursing home occupied by elderly Apache people. They all had that flat back of the head. I don't think it is actually harmful, but just would be odd in modern times.

My three cousins who were born on San Carlos were carried on cradleboards, but I guess they didn't spend as much time in them as the Apache kids, since they didn't noticeably get that effect. It's interesting to read early archeological works that postulated an invasion of different people because of head shape changes, when it more likely signaled a behavioral change in people already living there.

That's exciting! International travel, with hiking! I had plans to hike to Machu Picchu in May, but changed them when I signed up for the semester abroad in Costa Rica.

I really want to take an exotic hiking-centric vacation in 2012. So far I've narrowed it down to rafting down the Grand Canyon on a CRATE (Colorado River and Trail Expeditions) hiking-focused trip but that's more likely going to be 2013, something in the Himalayas or thereabouts, Costa Rica, or the Northern Rockies. Of course something in Arizona is much more likely and affordable. Who wants to hit the Pinals?

New places, new hikes, meet some more hiking partners.

I am really looking forward to 2012! I was having an outstanding hiking year in 2011 but then I was stopped cold in my tracks…

Around mid October I noticed an unusual pain in my groin. I was able to do some hiking in Zion but it was painful. After a couple of trips to my doctor we found that I had Inguinal Hernia. I had surgery a few days before Thanksgiving and have been recovering ever since. I finally made my first hike up Camelback after 55 days off. It felt great getting back on the mountain! Now I just need more time to rehab and hope to be 100% by early January.

My hiking goals for 2012 are 750 miles and 250K of AEG.

I want to improve my cardio and get stronger so I can backpack some more intense routes!

And once that Cardio goal has been reached I want to hit up the Royal Arch Loop in GC! :D

I'd also like to visit as many different regional/state/national parks as possible this year and hike at LEAST 3 miles in each with my boyfriend and daughter :)

After reading your comment, I've got to do Skeleton Cave this Spring as planned!! It didn't look that bad on the map... (then again, neither did Royal Arch).

My goal for 2012 is to find myself a full time job in my field, anywheres!!! Haven't had much luck accomplishing that goal so far in 2011 :(

Also want to hike at least 3-4 times a month & train hard so I can hopefully complete the 100ish mile backpack/packrafting trip in the Bob Marshall wilderness this coming summer.

I hope Kelly doesn't meet anymore target shooters on hiking trails.
I hope Tim Italy has hiked the world over.

As for my Hazolutions I hope to add more hiking partners to that short list (imagine Kurt has over a thousand hiking "Friends"). Based on what's in my reach ( weekly Superstition and Grand Canyon treks are simply dreams ) I'd like to break an 18min ascent on Squaw. I've been conditioning for a month now and am working towards that goal already. Not really a goal but more importantly I'm hoping for an incredible wildflower season locally. All the hikes most consider drab turn phenomenal. Being easily accessible they motivate people. Whereas some detest others I enjoy people. I believe hiking is an essential part of our freedom to enjoy life. While our styles differ everyone deserves the right to enjoy being an explorer.

While I seem to have more time to do new adventures, I don't seem to have the corresponding time to get everything posted. With a quick glance over my triplogs, descriptions, photosets and tracks I realize I've missed more than a few.
:guilty:

Yeah, I know, I know... if only I'd do more No notes presumably took memories and left without a trace... triplogs I'd have more time to post the rest.
:-({|=

But... with early retirement coming up in April hopefully I'll have more time to actually post all the new and exciting stuff I find.

Ah... but maybe Joe could do a HAZ-wide search-and-replace??? :worthy:
