3 Days in "Paradise" with The Hippy

Post by Hippy »

November 9/10/11 2012 (Fri/Sat/Sun)

I'll be leading a troupe into the Supes for 3 days of fun, hiking, exploring (and cartwheels, can't forget the cartwheels!) So of course everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us.

Day 1 (friday)
Roughly 2 1/2 hour drive from Peoria (where I live) so we'll plan on a 4am depart from home for an early start.
Depending on who all will join us I may opt to leave the night before (because I love night hiking : rambo : ) but we'll take a vote.

We will begin at Reavis Trailhead (Reavis Ranch Via North #109) it's roughly a 9 mile hike to Reavis Ranch, there we will set up base camp

Day 2 (saturday)
From our base camp at Reavis Ranch we will head out to visit Circlestone and finish it up with a group bagging of Mound Mountain's peak at 6,266 feet. Shouldn't take the entire day to do this but we'll use the entire day to explore.

Day 3 (sunday)
Lazy morning of exploring the area followed by the 9 mile hike back to the vehicle(s) at Reavis Trailhead and home in time for supper!

3 days in the Supes, doesn't get any better than this....well, unless you're Elisha Reavis a century or so ago... :D

there is no pumpkin limit!!! is there? I didn't get the memo...

Oh and Rocco isn't going now, no dog, we decided due to weather it's best to leave him behind. He didn't fare to well that one time at Skull Cave poor guy got beat up and froze his lil' paws off! Good call Vince, we'll have to drag him along on the next day trip/hike though.

So in this afternoon's forecast discussion, they have focused the heaviest precipitation primarily into Friday and Friday night. But the storm seems to be tapping a little bit more moisture and the mountains east of Phoenix (you know, where we will be!) could get more rain/snow than previously expected.

Right now the snow level should drop to near 5000 feet, keeping Reavis just below the snow line. Yay! Ice cold rain! :yuck: It is common for the snow levels to drop during heavy showers so I wouldn't be surprised to see a mix of precipitation at the ranch off and on during Friday afternoon and night. It seems a safe bet that there will be no accumulating snow.

Saturday looks to be a chilly day with a high of just 45, and occasional light showers. Saturday night should be about 25 but the chance of precip should have passed by then.

I'll see what the updated model runs say tomorrow and post the update here.

If y'all are going to stop somewhere in the East Valley post hike be sure to give me a call! Or maybe I'll just surprise you Sunday at the TH with some hot coffee and Baileys :)

I'm not sure about the north trail, but I know the south trail get really muddy b/w the saddle and the ranch. Sounds like a mud slingin' good time.

North trail road is decomposed granite and can handle wet weather very well. The only concern is the highway 88 crossing at Tortilla Creek if there is a very major downpoor. If you cannot cross that crossing you have to backtrack all away around through Globe. I.E word make sure that you have plenty of fuel for your vehicles.

If the weather Friday morning is cloudy, wet and windy my wife and I will probably not meet you at the north trailhead. My 11 year old granson has invited me to attend a veterans ceremony at his school Friday morning as well and I would do that instead as a plan B.

There shouldn't be the kind of rain amounts that will cause washes to run and make road crossings difficult. It seems like it will be much more of a cold event. With a side of nuisance rain and snow showers. With little to no accumulating snow even at higher elevations (at least in the Supes).
