Black Canyon Trail For Running

Post by SpiderLegs »

Looking for something new for my weekend trail run. Stumbled on the BCT and it looks like it might fit what I'm looking for. Only 30-45 minutes from my house and the possibility to be 5-10 degrees cooler first thing in the morning.

Don't mind route finding when I'm hiking, but like something idiot proof when I'm out running. How well marked are the BCT trails up around Black Canyon City? The section just south of Bumblebee looks perfect for a long run, about 10 miles out and back with 1000 AEG.

Have been on the trail from New River Road... Boy Scout Loop from Emery Henderson TH ... I think it would be a good one for running too...there is spots with lots of Cholla though...about 11 miles if you go around the loop..

Boy Scout loop from Emory would be no problem. However, any of the first four BCT sections are prone to gunfire. Go at false dawn, or during a week day ...

Well a friend just recommend part of the BCT out by Rock Springs Cafe and I was thinking about the section from Crown King Road to Bumblebee. Are those sections far enough away from town to discourage beer can hunters? Would probably be out there at the crack of dawn and be done by 8 AM at the latest.

Crown King to Bumble Bee should be okay. I did not see any evidence of firing ranges there.
