Man, I'm trying to read the review of the hike, and whoever wrote it has absolutely horrid grammar.

Hahaha, after your comment I promptly went and read through the description because I'm a fellow grammar nazi... Not as bad as I expected. A little more punctuation in the first paragraph would have made it a smoother read, but in all it still beats the heck out of 98% of the internet's content.rushthezeppelin wrote:Man, I'm trying to read the review of the hike, and whoever wrote it has absolutely horrid grammar.

Re: Red Creek Feb 21
I think you have to figure 2 hours of driving to get there (from Tempe). What time were you thinking of getting started?

I'm flexible in terms of start time. What ever makes sense. I'm up early anyways.

Re: Red Creek Feb 21
I'm still very interested. I'd prefer leaving town around 8 or 9 am. How does that work with your plans?

Re: Red Creek Feb 21
That'll work. I figure its about 1:30-2:00 hours from my house depending on road conditions.

Re: Red Creek Feb 21
OK, so a bit off-topic, but I thought this thread was the place to put this. We hiked here yesterday, and near the confluence of Red Creek and the Verde River, there was a sign and gate indicating entry into the Mazatzal Wilderness. I was surprised because I didn't think the wilderness ventured west of the Verde River. Sure enough, upon looking at the map ... it doesn't! In fact, it's not even close! So how is there a sign, and gate, WELDED closed, so far from an actual wilderness area? (Note, the gate actually prevents vehicles from leaving the river area, not the typical gate which prevents vehicles from getting close to the water. In this case, the road is in the creek, and leaving the creek is gated closed!)
Here's the map, with the gate circled in red, Gila/Yavapai county line highlighted, Wilderness boundary in orange, and Red Creek trail/4wd road in green.
Anyone?

Re: Red Creek Feb 21
Looks like they have added some areas there are alot of the wilderness that is now on the west side of the verde per the national forest website..

In response to chumley:
Perhaps they're trying to keep people from driving to the airstrip and flying into the wilderness

Re: Red Creek Feb 21
Interesting. My Topo! maps don't reflect the newer areas. I'll have to research that more. What's weird is that when adding to it, they kept the road down Red Creek open, which is a very strange and unusual move when it comes to creating wilderness areas in AZ.Dschur wrote:Looks like they have added some areas there are alot of the wilderness that is now on the west side of the verde per the national forest website..
