Good luck. I'd love to see some pics of current "trail" conditions.

It's going to be a hot one Stefan. From what little I've seen of this trail it's very exposed, and you'll be going over a lot of rocks.

a little heat isn't going to hurt too bad... that's what waking up at 3:00 AM is for :) the off-trail ascent is really the most exposed portion of the hike... barnhardt trail is fairly covered by either cliffs or foliage. if anything it was severely overgrown back in august.

sorry modified the date but not the title... now it should read properly. delayed it because it's just too hot and there is too probably going to be too much storm activity to reach the summit quick enough.

Fun Hike but very exhausting, I would prefer a time when there is more water available, it can get very dry up there. I recommend the northern slopes, more trees and much cooler. Good Luck.

The weather forcast for this saturday is 105 so I was going to propose slipping into October perhaps 10th or 17th.

johnr1, yes... not a bad idea. however, i have the catalina 'hike' in october so i want to ensure it does not conflict.

I would also be interested in doing the hike later in September as well. I would have to know which date it will be by next Thursday the 17th.

I think we can stick to the 27th... sundays aren't bad for me generally. so i'll keep it to this and make sure i schedule my other stuff around it.

oh... and any preferred route. i've heard going up Y bar (or basin, can't remember which it was) is not too bad. wally has done this three different ways from what i recall. we can easily do barnhardt or suicide ridge too, but i think it's a bit longer of a hike.
