Visitors from NJ coming to Phoenix 2/14-21 looking for hike

Post by georgetta1956 »

Hello All,
I love this site and my eyes are getting sore from all the reading I'm doing. I'm hoping that some of you locals can include my husband and me in a hike while we're in the area. All your posts are helpful, but we'd love to share a 5-6 mile outing with some AZ folk who can show us the ropes. We hike all the time here in NJ and we are forgoing our month long ski trip to CO this winter to hike your beautiful state. All replies welcome.

My nomination for a first AZ hike around that length is the Black Mesa Loop in the Superstitions.

Wow, it never seems that long to me, but that's probably about right. Garden Valley Loop is good, too.

@Big_Load - Arizona dry heat makes miles seem shorter. 9 miles in Arizona is about 6 miles in NJ :y:
Ooops - NJ has NO AEG. ARGHH!!! When you add AZ AEG that hike is like 10 miles in NJ miles.

Maybe if we carry everything for Georgetta1956 & her husband they could do Black Mesa. Any volunteers?
Anybody can make a hike harder. The real skill comes in making the hike easier.

We have a few good hills, although not nearly enough. I can think of three places where you can get roughly 1,000 ft in a mile.

Hackberry Spring is another good AZ flora hike of reasonable length.

I was planning to do the Garden Loop, I read the description right here. Still would like to join some folks. Any clubs that meet? My husband goes out 2x a week with his club.
