Common Names: aka Blue Lupine, Desert Lupine: Mojave Lupine.

Habitat: Desert roadsides, slopes & mesas.

Flowers: Violet-blue. White rare. distinctive with one petal on top and two on the bottom. In an elongated cluster. About 1/2" long each. upper petal (banner) has a yellow spot which changes to reddish after pollination. keel petals are short, wide & curve upward to a slender tip. hairy on the bottom.

Description: Perennial herb. Up to 18" tall. 23 species of Lupine in Arizona. dark Green leaves with short, silky hair and with 7 to 10 narrow lanceolate leaflets.

Comments: Poisonous. Following wet winters these can carpet roadsides. L. arizonicus flowers are more purplish-pinkish & a little shorter. It is usually at higher elevations with bright green leaves.
