Habitat: riparian Flowers: catkins, appearing early in spring before the leaves emerge, the male catkins are yellowish-green in hanging clusters (pendulous), 2"-4" long, the female cone catkins 3/4" long and 1/2" broad when mature in late autumn. seeds are small, 1/2"-1" long, light brown with a narrow encircling wing.
