very interesting fern on fern type of thing.

Dicranopteris linearis, commonly known as the Uluhe fern or Old World Forked Fern, is a native plant found across all the main Hawaiian Islands, including the Big Island. It thrives in Hawaiian rainforests, especially in wetter areas, and can even colonize disturbed habitats like lava flows.
Keystone Species:
It is considered a keystone species in Hawaiian ecosystems, meaning it plays a crucial role in the environment, with many other species depending on it for survival.
Colonization:
It can colonize bare sites, like lava flows, talus slopes, and abandoned roads, making it an important pioneer species in ecological succession.
Ecological Role:
Uluhe forms dense thickets that can resist the invasion of exotic species into Hawaiian rainforests. It may also have allelopathic effects, inhibiting the growth of other plants.
Propagation:
While efforts are ongoing to propagate uluhe from spores, traditional division methods can be challenging due to root disturbance.
