I had to zoom in on this beauty; a massive fault-block of gray limestone. The dramatic, steep western face as seen from **US Highway 93**, between the towns of Mackay and Challis.
7.3 magnitude earthquake** occurred here, causing the peak to physically rise by about 1 foot (and the valley floor to drop), creating a visible "fault scarp" that you can still see at the base of the mountain today.
* **Chicken Out Ridge:** This is the mountain's most famous feature for hikers. On the standard ascent route (the Southwest Ridge), there is a narrow, exposed rocky section where many people "chicken out" due to the steep drops on both sides.
