Looking to the west at the McDonald Valley, Glacier Wall, McPartland and Heavens Peaks and some of the mountains of the Livingston Range. You can see how the Trapper fire burned. Here is an excerpt from a great narrative about the fires of 2003: "Suddenly I caught sight of orange below me and to the south. Even in the dark, I knew that the fire now was on the switchbacks to the lookout. And once it was there, it could jump over almost anytime."

"The Trapper Creek Fire spread steadily over West Flattop Mountain, sending smoke over much of the Park. On July 23, it exploded dramatically, overrunning the Loop on Going-to-the-Sun Road and then racing uphill to Swiftcurrent Pass."
