making our way along the flatter part of this wonderful trail. The Shephard layer is to our right. Heavens and McPartland Peaks straight ahead with the smokey McDonald Valley to its right. You can see the Chalet below.
The McDonald Valley would become even smokier when the Howe Ridge Fire started this year. A lot of the Howe Ridge Fire actually is over the 2003 burn area. And if you didn't see this video online or on tv; it's terrifying of the father/son trying to escape the fire on the North McDonald Lake Road. They were okay but it was literally touch and go for awhile. They were ultimately saved by the DeSmet (the Lake McDonald tour boat). http://www.kpax.com/story/38912768/camp ... glacier-np
Sadly the Howe Fire took out some historical structures that I didn't even know about.
