A pleasant surprise along the Highway 93/Great Basin Highway. He could have done it but I sure couldn't have. Regional Usage: Quarter horses and other fast, "blooded" American breeds were common on the eastern end of the route. WesternMustangs were preferred for the harsh, mountainous terrain.

The Pony Express operated from April 3, 1860, running a 2,000-mile trail between St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California.
The service employed young, wiry riders who faced dangerous conditions to deliver mail in 10 days or less.
Riders exchanged tired horses for fresh ones at swing stations located every 10-15 miles along the route.
The service became obsolete with the expansion of telegraph lines across the West.
