I continued upwards from the saddle, huffing and puffing my merry way and then I heard a loud ROOMPH! What the heck ! A large javelina, perhaps fifteen feet in front of me. Scared the heck out of me. Course all I could think was get a picture. Thankfully he cooperated by climbing the mountain and stopping to look down at me. I took a bunch of pics-I'll just pick out the best one. Now I was thinking okay which way does the trail continue? There are spots here where it's a little faint, you pick your way through the sharp black slate (careful!). Well the trail continued to the left, just where my friend was. Did I really need to go that way? I did. He (she?) bolted down the mountain in front of me, closer than before. Okay you've got my attention! A few minutes later I caught up to a woman on the trail ahead of me who recounted that she saw the babies too. Kept burning my way to the summit, 46 m from the TH. Cold and windy up there with 360 degree views! The rain held off as I made my way down-just keeping an eye out for my large friend. |
