| no partners | | Another hike with the White Mountain Conservation League into the heart of the wilderness expansion proposal area, along Paddy Creek. This area has seen recent erosion due to ATV traffic. The hillside across from the volcanic tuff cliffs has some forest that was never logged. At the top of that hill across the canyon of Paddy Creek is Terry Flat, a popular area for visitors, and also the location of the trailhead for the main Escudilla National Recreation Trail (known on HAZ as Escudilla Trail.)
Some of us opted to do a loop hike, and had to walk back along the road, but it gave us several more miles, anyway. There are any number of ways to hike in the Escudilla area, but going off-trail it would be good to have a map! |
