| no partners | | I had wanted to do this one for a long time but never got around to it. Today I not only hiked to the top of this volcanic cinder cone, but then set a GPS course to Patterson Spring, a waypoint I had marked a year ago when I first started working at the nearby dude ranch. So, I revisited the spring from the opposite direction by following the little GPS compass.
The decision to go to Patterson Spring was made while I was sitting on the top of St. Peter's Dome. The quickest way to the spring took me down the steepest side of the mountain, which also has very thick forest, and big ol' Doug firs.
I am pretty sure the AEG was not 1400+ feet as in original write-up, more like 500, (but his route was much different.)
The views might be better if you went down a different way.
The hike register on the top was placed in 1990 by the Sierra Club Desert Peaks Section out of California. I noticed several friends and acquaintances had signed in over the years. There was still room in the little booklet, and there will continue to be room in it, if people would just put their name, date, and hometown, instead of quoting the Bible endlessly or writing bad poetry...do that somewhere else, please! |
