This is a great hike up past Show Low, 5 miles outside of Vernon. It is a well marked trail that follows dirt logging roads and foot trails through the forest. We came within 5 feet of 3 small elk sitting under an oak tree and the mother grazing with 2 bull elk not too far away. This trail is a 10.2 mile loop that has marked shortcuts. The first shortcut will take you on a 3.5 mile hike and the second shortcut takes you on an 8.5 mile hike.
