Unfortunately for many reasons, this hike was not what it could have been. As pretty much everyone knows, checking the weather forecast every day for weeks in advance will not guarantee a nice weather day. I scheduled the hike and then watched the forecast. But as the day grew closer, the percent chance of rain went up, and up, and up....
The first ten minutes of the hike were alright. Clouds covered the sky and temps were in the 60s. Then it started to sprinkle. And then it started to rain. I trudged on through the muddy trail as quickly as I could, but because I've been having knee problems lately the going was slow. Steve and Randy hurried ahead and then waited for me at a trail junction. We all agreed that the hike needed to be over with ASAP. Good, now only six more miles to go... They speed-hiked ahead just to get done with it, but waited up for me as needed. The trail at times turned into a creek, and I started having flashbacks of last week's Lemmon adventure. But thankfully although it was colder, this hike was not as wet! I eventually caught up with them back at the TH, where we all decided that instead of Wolf Creek, it would be more fun to run into town for beers and food. So, what to do now that half our hike was missing? We devoured the greasy delicious sustenance, imbibed our spirits, and headed down to Phoenix... |
