| partners | | Headed up to Lower Wolf Creek campground on Thursday to get a good spot, and boy did we get one! This is a wonderful campground, clean and quiet (even over Memorial Day weekend!) and the sites are spacious and spread apart. The sites were even cleaned and raked prior to our arrival! If you go, try to snag site #4, it's by far the best one, with Wolf Creek babbling less than 20 feet from the camp. It's clean and clear water, we even used it for our camp shower.
It got crazy windy on Saturday/Sunday, and when the wind died down Sunday night it got chilly! But that made for beautiful weather for our hike up Spruce Mountain on Monday. While driving towards the trailhead, a good sized bobcat walked across the road and sat there watching us for about a minute.
We opted for the north 3.5 mile hike up the mountain. The last mile or so up is a pretty good huffer, but I've definitely been on steeper trails. We popped in on Suzy in the lookout tower, she said surprisingly there were no fires over this busy, windy weekend. Visited and snacked for a bit, then headed back down the way we came. Next time we'll do the full loop.
This is a wonderful hike, only about 15 minutes outside of Prescott. If you're in the area, don't pass it up. If you're not in the area, make a trip of it. It's a wonderful weekend getaway! |
