| partners | | angela and i had planned a hike in sedona sunday, but with the entire valley and drive up I-17 obscured by dust and haze, we detoured over to prescott
plan B was the groom creek loop
i've done this a couple of times, but not for at least ten years
the trail has been rerouted somewhat since then
went counter-clockwise this time for an easier ascent
the air started clearing up, so we had good views to the south and west
had a snack at the isabella trail junction
a lot of downed trees along the ridgeline
arrived at the picnic area, and went up to the fire tower
no one there, so we went up the steps as far as we could, but the cloud cover and wind made it pretty chilly, so we retreated to some sheltering rocks to have lunch
again, good views with a squall line to the northeast
all downhill from there, with some nice areas through the forest, but under the power line, there are a lot of cut trees and chopped up landscape
the highlight of this stretch was an exploration of the bouldering area
pretty cool playground
i've been wanting to get back here, so considering the weather, this was a great backup plan
thanks for driving and for lunch, angela
enjoyed your company, as always! |
