| no partners | | Hiked in to the Fossil Springs area with 2 co-workers on Friday morning (September 24, 2010)for a 3 day trip. Two other co-workers met us the next day. The first night was uneventful and I was a little dissapointed that we had no critter visits. The second night we were visited a by a skunk who wandered through our camp and paid me little to no attention, and came within a few feet of my face, even though I was sleeping on the ground without a tent. I got up and followed it to get a photograph. The next morning, we observed a deer feeding on watercress on the opposite bank of the creek.
I was surprised at the lack of birds in the area (I only saw 6 birds the entire 3 days at the creek and one of those was a Zone-Tailed Hawk soaring up on a high ridge). I heard a Canyon Wren one morning, but other than that, the only other sounds were the flowing creek and noisy locusts. I would assume that some birds had already migrated. It was still very unusual.
Other than saturday afternoon, we had the entire place to ourselves. Overall, it was a great trip. |
