| no partners | | Members of the Arizona Mountaineering Club spent the weekend of October 2nd doing a technical clean-up at the Grand Canyon. 75 volunteers worked together rappelling "over the edge" to safely remove bags of garbage along with various odds and ends from the Canyon's most spectacular overlooks and view points. AMC members were joined by 2 of Arizona's finest Search & Rescue groups. A car bumper was hauled out from the Bright Angel area and a picnic table was recovered from being thrown over the edge at Shoshone Point. In addition to the clean-up efforts, this year's event included the 1st Annual Chili Cook-off and concluded with amazing climbing fun inside the big ditch! I learned a lot while coordinating the event. Thanks to all the participants for making the event such a success and working to keep "Arizona's Natural Wonder" beautiful!
Next year's clean-up is set for October 1-2, 2011. I will be coordinating the event again. |
