I was really looking forward to this trip; the climbing and the playing in this canyon is unmatched. I met a few new people including Arisia, she isn't new to climbing but she's brand new to leading. She was a nice inspiration for me this trip; another girl that has the passion to lead just like the boys.

I was first into the canyon, I had a little trouble getting onto the rappel due to the sheath that was too far down the lines. I didn't have my safety correct but I managed to down climb enough to lock off. It's hard to explain but I wasn't as safe as I could have been. I think Liz really helped me recenter and get out of danger. (She's done this for me before!) Luckily we found the correct way for Liz to anchor in lower and I was ready with a fireman's belay if something went wrong.
Yeah, so that was the approach...

I wish I had the opportunity to climb more; but we climbed a few routes then decided to play and explore upstream. Just outside the canyon there was a warning for damaging winds! It wasn't tearing through the canyon but it sure was breezy once we got wet. After a few CHILLY swims upstream we ALL were so very cold. Then Liz spotted the prize! A lovely beach and the top layer was covered with tiny pebbles; just the perfect size for the 4 of us! We dove into the warm sand! Right away, I was wearing long pants and sleeves made out of sand. Liz was creatively making sand angels and collecting little shells; they made the best sound in her hand...
It was a very ZEN moment!
We sunbathed and napped; once we dried off the sand brushed right off. We were joined by the 'Gingers' It was fun watching the three of them let go, and be one with our beach.

Then the time came to return, OMG we had to get back in the water!
The water was so friggen cold! (I may or may not have been in a fish floaty)
Okay, I was in a toddler tube but I rocked that fish floaty, JJP-Speedboat style!
I made great time back to the crag. We treasured the last bits of the day and dried in the sun!

The ascent out of the canyon was very upsetting to me and it changed my mind about entering the canyon without a experienced trip leader. (I did not agree to and I am not qualified to be the trip leader..) I am still pretty upset about the way the whole thing played out. I'll probably come back and write up more when I can. We all got out safe and at the end of the day that's what matters but there are lessons I learned..

PS: The photos go along with my triplog aren't mine, I took a few of them on Liz's camera, my pack camera is still MIA. I don't triplog w/o photos EVER.

I am now attempting to navigate, post, reply (etc..) this site with only an iPhone… Wish me luck!
