Before we arrived at the parking lot, the rain started to fall. That was followed by flashes of light and thunder. I parked the Tahoe, cracked the windows and got comfortable....nap time. The gentle rolling thunder and raindrops hitting the truck made for the perfect sleep-aid.
When I awoke I went for a little walk down towards the water. Not easy, as I was wearing flip-flops. This was a canoe trip, not a hike. A few slips down the muddy slope and I soon was at the bottom. Then it began to rain again. I took shelter under a large sandstone ledge.
When the rain stopped, I climbed back up the slope and woke up Anna who was enjoying her zzzzz's. We drove over to the boat ramp and unloaded the canoe. By now, it was about 5 o'clock, the sun was low, and the water was like glass. We shared the water with a couple other kayakers and a few fishermen.
Anna and I canoed for about 2 hours before heading back to the dock and loading up for the trip home. The rain and the 50 degree temperature drop made for a cool relaxing break from the desert heat. |
