| partners | | Xgtek (Xavier) and I set out from the Acacia beach to the point campground on a very hazy morning at about 930 the lake was calm with few boats and Jet skiers which was nice. We did not see any other Kayakers I believe we were the only people powered boats on the lake. The overcast and the haze kept the temps down. We made our way up the channel to the Point Campground our planned lunch stop and saw several Turkey Vultures and Herons. On the way we explored some of the shore line and side canyons and took photos. We made it to the point camping area around noon and did some swimming. The condition of the site was terrible lots of trash all over the place. We both were annoyed at ourselves for forgetting to bring some trash bags to clean up some of the mess. On the next trip I will make sure I have a few trash bags. After lunch we headed deeper into the canyon exploring more of the side canyons. At around 130 we realized the haze and overcast was burning off and the wind and temps were picking up. It was time to turn around and paddle against the wind back to the beach. On the way back we stopped a few more times to cool off and grab a snack. We made it back to Acacia around 4 PM loaded the Kayaks and headed back to Mesa. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing day on Canyon Lake and a good introduction to Kayaking for Xavier. |
