Bartels recommended this as the best close-by hike for where I live, I with minimal gas money and a free evening, I hit it up. Parked at the elementary school, and had a hard time finding the trail...turns out the gate was locked, even though it was a Sunday and 5:30 pm, which according to the sign means the gate should've been open. Looks like users have dug a gully under the fence next to gate, which I used to get access to the trail. Joe was right, Sunrise is a pretty decent hike considering the suburban sprawl that abounds. I was pleasantly surprised to find some potential photo ops that do not contain houses in them. Enjoyed the climax of the sunset at the summit, where I did the manly thing and took a leak. Came down in the dark, thoroughly enjoying myself. Proceeded to play two games of basketball with my 15-year-old brother-in-law directly afterward.
