| no partners | | Went up to summit via "less difficult" trail, but as advertised it had its difficult moments in the steep ups and downs along the eastern contour. The 8 switchbacks leading up to the breezy saddle are long and easy. Walked from there about a half-mile over to the flatish summit. Only about 5 feet in elevation separate the higher W end from the E. Saw no one until I started down about 1630, then passed nine before reaching the saddle and the switchbacks. Two hawks, side by side, hanging stationary in the stout breeze, like fixtures above the summit. A marvelous sight. At the saddle I thought I'd take the "difficult" trail back, but soon found it leading to some western peaks and knew it would be dark before I navigated them. So tunred back on same route as ascent. Got back to the Westwing school parking lot just before sunset. Numerous hikers going up from the park below. |
