| no partners | | | We drove up to Flagstaff on Sunday, August 7 had a big breakfast at IHOP with the kids in tow. Around 9:45 headed out for the trailhead. Put the kids in their backpacks then started our hike around 10:30 a.m. It was a georgeous day, but their was a storm brewing as we could see the clouds and hear the thunder. Carrying an extra 23 lbs. wasn't easy, let me tell you. With the steady grade uphill, you really feel it, probably something I might have otherwise would not have noticed. I had to rest at least 3 times on the way up. The kids loved it. My husband was packing our 3 year old (33 lbs) and our 11 year old carried our water and the kids jackets and some snacks. We turned around to just before reaching the "top" due to lightening and the suggestion of others on their way back and glad we did, because just as we got to our Yukon it really started to rain. We put a movie on the for kids and me and my husband relaxed in the back and ate our lunch and listend to the rain. |
