| no partners | | Recon hike #2 for an upcoming attempt to climb east & west peaks of S B Mountain. I was expecting to hike a much longer distance than my first hike today so I was loaded for bear this time.
I started this hike well below the first one and had more climbing to do. Once up on a ridge I followed it over every peak along the route to 3775 before heading back. On my return trip I decided to try a more direct route only to be cliff'ed out less than .25 mile from my vehicle. After taking a look around, it looked like it would take a half-mile or more of backtracking to avoid the cliff. With plenty more exploration planned for the day I decided to chance it. Although slow going I was able to drop down without too much drama and was surprised by how quickly I made it down.
Between the two hikes as well as another point of view from some distance south later in the day I now have a much better idea of how to approach S B Mountain. |
